SLSS Awarded Funding for Bonanza Wetlands Remediation

October 2019 – Slocan Lake Stewardship Society (SLSS) has received 3 years of funding $242,000 from Columbia Basin Trust’s Ecosystem Enhancement Project to restore 3 important wetland complexes along Bonanza Creek between Summit and Slocan Lakes.  SLSS has obtained additional funding through partnership with the Kootenay Conservation Program’s Kootenay Connect initiative to conserve the Bonanza Creek Corridor’s unique ecosystem and value as a source of biodiversity, as a hydrological buffer during climate change and for wildlife travel between Valhalla Provincial Park, Goat Range Park and beyond.   To embark on a project of this size and with total spending expected to be over $400,000 over the next 3-4 years, is a turning point for SLSS.  For more information go to: News Release and Project Summary & Timeline.

Eyes on Slocan Lake 2014

Like to watch wildlife around Slocan Lake? Got a smart phone or digital camera and enjoy photographing nature? If so, please join SLSS’s new project called Eyes on Slocan Lake.

It’s a biodiversity mapping project developed by the SLSS in partnership with the Selkirk Geospatial Research Centre (SGRC), with support from the Columbia Basin Watershed Network (CBWN). It aims to capture the nature’s richness in the Slocan Lake Watershed using the iNaturalist app. Check out more about Eyes on Slocan Lake here.
